Scientists at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) have come out with a finding that the number of patients infected with oropharyngeal cancer had shown a remarkable increase during the period 1983-2002. People getting affected with this type of cancer were more prevalent in the developed pills store countries. Oropharyngeal cancer usually occurs in the middle part of the throat at the base of the tongue and also at the side walls of throat. This study conducted by Anil K. Chaturvedi, Ph.D., division of Epidemiology and Genetics, NCI, and his colleagues, has been published in the online version of Journal of Clinical Oncology dated November 18th 2013.
Many countries across the globe have showed rising occurrence of oropharyngeal cancer and have been attributed to a type of virus called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Chaturvedi and his fellow researchers at the Ohio State University have evaluated the trends in oropharyngeal cancer and oral cavity cancers. As a part of the study, the group took data from cancer registry data on 180,000 patients from 23 countries. At the end of the study, the group came to a conclusion pills store that oropharyngeal cancer was more prevalent during the period 1983 to 2002 in both men and women. Women also had higher rates of oral cancer and lung cancer during the same period.
